Popcorn Perspective

20 x 16” oil pastel

This piece, ‘Popcorn Perspective,’ is all about seeing something common in a new way. I used oil pastels to bring out the textures and shapes of popcorn, but with a twist – instead of the usual colors, I chose to incorporate blues and greens. These cool tones make the popcorn look different, almost like it’s frozen or part of an underwater scene.

I focused on the small details of each popcorn piece, zooming in close. This close perspective lets you see all the bumps and curves that you might not notice normally on popcorn. By using oil pastels, I could mix colors right on the canvas and create many different textures. It was fun to see how the colors and textures blended together.

This artwork was a way for me to experiment. I played around with colors and textures to make an everyday snack look new and interesting. It’s a reminder that looking at things in a new way can reveal unexpected beauty.
