Graphite
In this graphite drawing, I wanted to explore the theme of time and preservation. Each object – an hourglass, plastic grapes, a vintage bottle, faded flowers, an old camera, and a beetle encased in resin – tells a story of the past. They are all items that have lasted through time, each with its own history and beauty.
I chose graphite pencil for its ability to capture fine details and subtle shades. This medium helped me bring out the textures of the objects, like the scratches on the bottle and the delicate veins in the flowers. The goal was to make the scene look as realistic as possible, to make it feel like you can reach out and touch these items.
This piece is also about my growth as an artist. I focused on improving my technical skills, like shading and texture, while also thinking deeply about what these objects mean. It’s a celebration of the past, showing how even old and abandoned things have beauty and stories to tell.
