Fish Broke The Line

16 x 20”

2023

Mixed media: pen, watercolor, acrylic paint

In my fish collage, I wanted to explore the idea of coloring outside the lines. I began by creating vibrant fish on watercolor paper, emphasizing the fish’s scales and textures with a mix of colors and pens. When I pasted this paper onto the canvas, there was a clear boundary between the paper and canvas, representing the conventional limits we often encounter.

To challenge these boundaries, I used acrylic paint to blend the fish into the canvas, blurring the line between two different worlds. This merging created textures that added depth and richness to the piece. It was a deliberate act of ‘coloring outside the lines,’ breaking free from constraints.
